La solidarité de Villeneuve-Loubet avec le Tibet dure depuis une décennie
Bruxelles : Sur invitation du bourgmestre et ancien député Lionnel Luca, le représentant Rigzin Genkhang du Bureau du Tibet à Bruxelles, s’est rendu à Villeneuve-Loubet, ville côtière de la Côte d’Azur, pour participer au 10 ème anniversaire de la « Journée pour un Tibet libre ». L’événement a été créé en 2014 par le maire actuel dans le but de célébrer, promouvoir et préserver la culture tibétaine. Il a lieu chaque année le 10 mars et cette année marque son 10 ème anniversaire.
Le dimanche matin a débuté par la projection du film intitulé « Espoir d’un Tibet Libre » de Migmar Jannot. Le documentaire retrace le parcours d’un premier lot de 20 enfants tibétains arrivés en France en 1962 suite à l’appel de Sa Sainteté le Dalaï Lama à l’aide internationale pour le Tibet et son peuple. Le représentant Genkhang a été invité à participer à un échange avec le public après la projection du film en présence du réalisateur.
Suite à cela, la Représentante Genkhang a été reçue par le Maire à la mairie pour une réunion bilatérale au cours de laquelle elle a exprimé sa sincère gratitude pour son soutien continu au Tibet depuis son mandat de membre de l’Assemblée nationale française et de président du groupe Tibet. Les deux parties ont également discuté d’une série de questions, notamment de Sa Sainteté le Dalaï Lama, de l’administration centrale tibétaine et de la situation actuelle du Tibet. Le Maire a remercié la Représentante Genkhang pour sa visite dans sa ville et l’a assurée de son soutien continu.
A la fin de la réunion, le Représentant a remis au maire un foulard tibétain traditionnel et quelques livres, dont le Livre de la joie de Sa Sainteté, en signe de gratitude.
Les deux hommes ont ensuite rejoint les autres invités et participants pour la cérémonie inaugurale de l’événement, qui a été déplacé à l’intérieur en raison d’une alerte météorologique exceptionnelle. Après le discours inaugural du maire, la représentante Genkhang a remercié une fois de plus le maire et son équipe pour leur engagement à défendre la juste cause du Tibet et leurs efforts dans l’organisation d’un tel événement. Elle a également informé l’auditoire de l’importance du 10 mars et a rappelé que cette journée marquait le 65 ème anniversaire du soulèvement national tibétain. Elle a ensuite souligné la répression continue contre les Tibétains au Tibet et la nécessité d’un soutien continu. Le représentant Genkhang a également remercié le gouvernement français pour son soutien au Tibet et à son peuple.
Une bougie a ensuite été allumée pour rendre hommage aux auto-immolés et aux prisonniers politiques, a observé une minute de silence et a chanté l’hymne national tibétain.
Différents stands tenus par des groupes de soutien au Tibet, des centres bouddhistes, des entreprises individuelles, des artistes et des restaurants tibétains accueillent le public. De plus, l’événement propose également des conférences, des expositions, la création et la dissolution de mandalas de sable, etc.
En signe de soutien et de solidarité avec le peuple tibétain, Villeneuve-Loubet hisse en permanence le drapeau national tibétain sur son bâtiment municipal et est jumelée avec Lhuntse Dzong au Tibet depuis 2016. 72 autres communes de France font également partie de ce « Jumelage de villes/ campagne d’adoption » initiée par France-Tibet et M. Jean-Louis Halioua avec le soutien de M. Lionnel Luca. La campagne vise à recueillir un soutien populaire pour la préservation de l’identité et de la culture tibétaines et à attirer l’attention internationale sur la situation au Tibet.
Selon les archives disponibles, 676 communes en France, 55 communes en Belgique et 40 communes au Luxembourg hissent également le drapeau national tibétain soit le 10 mars, soit tout au long de l’année.

Villeneuve-Loubet’s Decade Long Solidarity With Tibet
Brussels: On the invitation of the Mayor and former MP Lionnel Luca, Representative Rigzin Genkhang of the Office of Tibet, Brussels, travelled to Villeneuve-Loubet, a coastal town in the French Riviera, to participate in the 10th anniversary of the “Day for a free Tibet”. The event was created in 2014 by the current Mayor aimed to celebrate, promote and preserve Tibetan culture. It takes place every year on the 10th of March and this year marks the 10th anniversary.
Sunday morning started with a film screening titled “Espoir d’un Tibet Libre – Hope for a Free Tibet” by Migmar Jannot. The documentary traces the journey of the first batch of 20 Tibetan children that arrived in France in 1962 following His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s appeal for international aid for Tibet and his people. Representative Genkhang was invited to participate in an exchange with the public after the film screening in the presence of the Director.
Following this, Representative Genkhang was received by the Mayor at the town hall for a bilateral meeting during which she expressed her heartfelt gratitude for his continued support for Tibet since his time as a member of the French National Assembly and President of the Tibet group. The two sides also discussed a range of issues including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Central Tibetan Administration and the current situation of Tibet. The Mayor thanked Representative Genkhang for her visit to his town and assured her of his continued support.
At the end of the meeting, the Representative presented the Mayor with a traditional Tibetan scarf and a few books, including His Holiness’ Book of Joy as a token of gratitude.
The two then joined the other guests and participants for the inaugural of the event, which was moved indoors due to an exceptional severe weather alert. After the Mayor’s inaugural address, Representative Genkhang in her remarks thanked once again the Mayor and his staff for their commitment to defend the just cause of Tibet and their efforts in organising such an event. She also informed the audience the importance of 10th March and reminded that the day marked the 65th anniversary of the Tibetan National uprising day. She then highlighted the ongoing repression of Tibetans in Tibet and the need for continued support. Representative Genkhang also thanked the government of France for its support for Tibet and its people.
A candle was then lit to pay homage to the self-immolators and political prisoners, observed a minute of silence and sang the Tibetan national anthem.
Different stands run by Tibet Support Groups, Buddhist Centers, individual businesses, artists, Tibetan restaurants cater to the public. In addition, the event also features conferences, exhibitions, sand mandala creation and dissolution etc.
As an expression of support and solidarity with the Tibetan people, Villeneuve-Loubet hoists the Tibetan national flag permanently on their municipal building and is twinned with Lhuntse Dzong in Tibet since 2016. 72 other municipalities in France are also part of this “Town twinning/adoption campaign” initiated by France-Tibet and Mr Jean-Louis Halioua with the support of Mr Lionnel Luca. The campaign aims to garner grassroots support for the preservation of Tibetan identity and culture and bring international focus to the situation in Tibet.
According to records available, 676 municipalities in France, 55 municipalities in Belgium and 40 municipalities in Luxembourg also hoist the Tibetan national flag either on the 10th of March or throughout the year.
